On July 28, 2020, at 2149 hours, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a shooting at the Popeye’s at 2600 South Clinton Street and found two people suffering from gunshot wounds.

Details/Summary:
Officers responded to a shooting at Popeye’s at 2600 S Clinton St just before 10pm tonight. When they arrived they found two people suffering from gunshot wounds. One adult male and one adult female were taken to a local hospital. At the hospital doctors stated they had life threatening injuries. Homicide detectives along with Crime Scene Units were paged to the scene. Currently, they are early into this investigation. Detectives are interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence to piece together exactly what happened.
At this time in the investigation it is too early to speculate on what actually occurred and we are asking anyone with information to come forward and speak to detectives. You can call Crime Stoppers at 436-STOP or the Detective Bureau 427-1201. At this point we do not believe the shooting happened inside the restaurant. It appears to have happened in the area and the victim went to the restaurant for help.
Clinton St was shut down at 10:00pm for the duration of this investigation from Woodland St to Pontiac St. The street should be closed until around 1:00am. Alternate routes would be Calhoun for north and south traffic or Lafayette St for northbound traffic.
All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
