TinCaps ReCap: Fort Wayne 5, West Michigan 4

The TinCaps defeated the West Michigan Whitecaps, 5-4, on Tuesday night at Fifth Third Ballpark. For the first time this season, Fort Wayne has won three consecutive road games.

TinCaps Survive, Win Third in a Row

Comstock Park, Michigan (May 28, 2019 – The TinCaps defeated the West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers affiliate), 5-4, on Tuesday night at Fifth Third Ballpark. For the first time this season, Fort Wayne has won three consecutive road games. The ‘Caps have won nine of their last 12 overall.

The TinCaps (24-25) raced out to a 5-0 lead before needing to hold on late.

Left fielder Michael Curry opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with a two-out, two-run double. Center fielder Jawuan Harris added an RBI double in the second to make it 3-0. In the fifth, designated hitter Agustin Ruiz ripped a two-run single to expand the lead to 5-0.

The ‘Caps matched a season high with five doubles in the game. Catcher Blake Hunt had two of them in a three-hit performance.

Meanwhile, Gabe Mosser started and blanked the Whitecaps (18-33) for the first four innings. He finished with six innings of one-run ball, striking out eight against one walk and five hits.

West Michigan, which has lost seven in a row, made it interesting late with two runs in the seventh and another in the ninth, but Carlos Belen buckled down for his third save in four tries this year. He’s gone five outings in a row without allowing an earned run.
