Death Investigation

On February 26, 2019 shortly before 7:00 pm Officers from the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a reported shooting at the intersection of Smith Street and Senate Avenue. Initial information given to officers was that there was a victim that had been shot laying in the street right by the intersection. They were also advised that they had heard possibly up to 6 gun shots being fired.
Upon officers arrival on scene they located an adult male victim laying in the street suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The subject was initially listed in critical condition and Paramedics a short time later pronounced the victim deceased still on scene.
Detectives began canvassing the area for any possible witnesses. Witnesses stated that they had seen 2 subject flee the area on foot as soon as they heard the gunshots. A K9 team was brought in to attempt a track. The K9 team tracked from the last location the subjects were seen at and the continued to track until a point where there was no viable odor for the K9 to track from.
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians were called to the scene and began to speak with any witnesses as well as process the scene for any possible evidence associated with this incident.
The Identity of the victim will be released at a later time by the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
This incident is being investigated by the Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County Coroner’s Office, and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
Assisting in this investigation was the Fort Wayne Fire Department, Three Rivers Ambulance Authority, and the Allen County Police Department
