News release from the City of Fort Wayne:
Promenade Park construction update
Weather impacts Grand Opening plans
(May 8, 2019) – The City of Fort Wayne today provided an update on construction progress at Promenade Park.
Due to the wet spring we’ve experienced, it has made it more difficult for construction crews to be able to do work on certain aspects of the park.
Highlights of areas of the park that have been impacted the most by the weather:
- Parkview Tree Canopy Trail
- PNC Playground
- Little Creek Bioswale
- Rotary Fountain
- Betsy Chapman Family Gardens
- The Journal Gazette Foundation Dining Gardens
- Ambassador Enterprises Amphitheatre
Highlights of areas of the park that are on schedule:
- Old National Bank Plaza
- Park Foundation Pavilion
- Auer Lawn
- Convergence Sculpture
- Sweetwater Bandshell
- Entry Plaza
In addition, construction of the Doermer Kids’ Canal is on schedule at this time. The City of Fort Wayne is working with local approval agencies regarding particular features around the canal.
As a result of the weather challenges, the Promenade Park Grand Opening will not be able to be held June 21-23.
Promenade Park’s Grand Opening is now scheduled to take place August 9-11. The Grand Opening will feature a floating band performance, community art projects, lighted boat parade, butterfly release, and boat rides.
