News release from the City of Fort Wayne:

Mayor Henry announces Fort Wayne plans to become a TenPoint Coalition city
Trinity English Lutheran Church provides first donation to the effort

(June 21, 2018) – Mayor Tom Henry today was joined by Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill, Reverend Dr. Charles Harrison, Fort Wayne UNITED representatives, and local community and business leaders to announce that the City of Fort Wayne plans to become a TenPoint Coalition city.
The coalition is the next step in Fort Wayne’s efforts to influence the lives of young people, families and neighborhoods by implementing proactive strategies to reduce violence and emphasize the importance of education, employment and community partnerships.
The City will identify a neighborhood in the community to examine the areas of crime, education, health, and housing and how to improve conditions and the quality of life for residents and explore opportunities for growth and future success.
A number of cities in Indiana and across the country have or are exploring creating a TenPoint Coalition. Fort Wayne anticipates becoming an official TenPoint Coalition city later this year. The effort is being modeled after the TenPoint Coalition in Indianapolis.
“I’m encouraged by the enthusiasm and optimism that exists in our community as we come together to address challenges and work to provide hope and opportunities,” said Mayor Henry. “I appreciate and value the partnership with Attorney General Hill and Reverend Harrison. We share a common commitment and dedication to doing all we can to help residents and neighborhoods grow and thrive in a safe environment. The quality of life for our residents in Fort Wayne is critical to the current and future viability of our community.”
“The TenPoint Coalition has a proven track record of bringing peace to previously violent streets,” Attorney General Hill said. “By maintaining a constant presence in troubled areas and getting to know residents, TenPoint’s dedicated volunteers have helped restore hope to young people at risk of making destructive choices. Further, they have helped reform individuals who already have taken wrong turns in life.”
As part of today’s announcement, Trinity English Lutheran Church became the first financial partner to join with Fort Wayne UNITED in creating a TenPoint Coalition in Fort Wayne. Trinity English Lutheran Church will contribute $10,000 per year for three years in grant funding toward the establishment of the coalition.
“We’re appreciative of Trinity English Lutheran Church’s willingness to be part of an effort that will bring meaningful change to Fort Wayne,” said Iric Headley, director, Fort Wayne UNITED. “Their desire to be leaders in this innovative approach is a great first step as we help others.”
