A Flood Warning has been issued for each of our three local rivers:

  • Maumee River at Ft. Wayne affecting Allen and Paulding Counties
  • Saint Joseph River Ohio below Montpelier affecting Williams County
  • Saint Joseph River Ohio above Newville affecting Allen…De Kalb and Defiance Counties
  • Saint Joseph River Ohio near St. Joe River Ft. Wayne affecting Allen County
  • Saint Marys River near Decatur affecting Adams…Allen and Van Wert Counties
  • Tiffin River near Stryker affecting Defiance…Fulton and Williams Counties

…The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers…

  • Eel River at North Manchester affecting Cass…Kosciusko…Miami…Wabash and Whitley Counties
  • Kankakee River at Davis affecting La Porte…St. Joseph and Starke Counties

.Heavy rain will lead to rises along the rivers.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

Never drive vehicles through flooded areas. The water may be too deep to allow safe passage. Never allow children to play in or near flood waters. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or local media for further statements and updated forecasts.

The Flood Warning has been extended for The Maumee River at Ft. Wayne from Friday morning until further notice:

      At 10 PM Wednesday the stage was 8.9 feet and falling.
    • Moderate flooding is forecast.
    • Flood stage is 17.0 feet.
    • Forecast…The river will rise above flood stage Friday morning and crest near 20.7 feet around 8 PM Saturday May 6. Additional rises are possible thereafter.
    • At 21.0 feet…An increasing number of city streets begin to flood. Evacuations are necessary in River Haven.
    • This crest compares to a previous crest of 20.6 feet which occurred on Apr 19 2013.

    The Flood Warning has been extended for the Saint Joseph River Ohio near St. Joe River Ft. Wayne from late Thursday night until further notice:

    • At 10 PM Wednesday the stage was 5.8 feet and falling.
    • Minor flooding is forecast.
    • Flood stage is 12.0 feet.
    • Forecast…The river will rise above flood stage early Friday morning and crest near 14.9 feet around 2 AM Saturday May 6. Additional rises are possible thereafter.
    • At 15.0 feet…Flooding of lowland and farmland near the river increases.
    • This crest compares to a previous crest of 14.5 feet which occurred on May 27 2011.

    The St. Marys River:

    The Flood Warning has been extended for the Saint Marys River near Decatur from Friday afternoon to Tuesday morning:

    • At 10 PM Wednesday the stage was 9.0 feet and falling.
    • Moderate flooding is forecast.
    • Flood stage is 17.0 feet.
    • Forecast…The river will rise above flood stage Friday afternoon and crest near 20.1 feet around 2 PM Saturday May 6 and fall below flood stage around 10 AM Monday May 8.
    • At 20.5 feet…Indiana 101 north of Pleasant Mills is closed by flood water. Extensive agricultural flooding is in progress. Residents of the east and southeast side of Decatur become concerned.
    • This crest compares to a previous crest of 19.7 feet which occurred on Dec 29 2015.
