News release from the Fort Wayne Medical Society Alliance:
Fort Wayne Medical Society Alliance Distributes Nearly 1,000 Free Prom Dresses During 20th Annual Cinderella Dress Day
(March 25, 2017) – The Fort Wayne Medical Society Alliance provided more than 525 middle school and high school girls with health and wellness education on Saturday while handing out nearly 1,000 free prom dresses.
In its 20th year, Cinderella Dress Day is one of the premier events hosted by the Alliance. Hundreds of volunteers worked year-round to pull together the event with another 50 volunteers joining over two days to set up, distribute and tear down health fair booths, more than 2,000 dresses, and hundreds of shoes and accessories. New for this year’s event, juniors and seniors had the opportunity to enter into a drawing for one of four prom packages featuring photo shoots, hair, makeup and prom night dinners.
“This fun event allows us to reach young women when they need health education the most while also alleviating the financial burden of going to prom,” said Nasreen Ahmed, Cinderella Dress Day Committee Chair. “As these young women enter middle school and high school, we are able to share with them the importance of avoiding risky behaviors like texting and driving and how to care for their own health and wellbeing.”
This year’s event was made possible by sponsors: Peerless Cleaners, Northeast Ophthalmology, Lutheran Health Network, Parkview Health, Old National Bank, Judy Baumgartner (Century 21), Lake City Bank, Ceruti’s Catering, Kelley Automotive, La Unica 102.3 FM, STAR Financial Bank, Barbara’s Beginnings and The Bride To Be.
About the Fort Wayne Medical Alliance
The Fort Wayne Medical Society Alliance, established in 1939, is a not-for-profit organization that represents the spouses and families of all physicians and serves as the charitable arm of the Fort Wayne Medical Society. There are many avenues of support, but none so critical as the funding and volunteerism we receive from our 130 members. The Alliance is an all-volunteer organization, and 100% of our funds go towards supporting health related programs. Website.
