Game recap from last night’s TinCaps game:
TinCaps Walk Off on Selesky Single
Fort Wayne Scores Twice in Ninth Inning
By: David Kenyon
(August 13, 2016) – Punctuated by Tyler Selesky‘s pinch-hit walk-off RBI single, the TinCaps scored twice in the ninth inning to edge the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Tampa Bay Rays), 2-1, on Saturday night in front of a sellout crowd at Parkview Field.
To begin the final frame, Ruddy Giron laced a line drive into right field. Peter Van Gansen laid down a bunt, and Ruddy Giron advanced to third on a throwing error.
Austin Allen’s hitting streak ended at a franchise-record 24 games, but he evened the score, 1-1, with a sacrifice fly to center field. Carlos Belen and Brad Zunica followed with a pair of singles to load the bases.
Selesky then grabbed a bat and smacked the winning hit through the hole into right field, scoring Van Gansen and sparking the Fort Wayne (20-28 second half, 56-62 overall) celebration.
Corey Kimber (W, 3-2) picked up the win, throwing 3.2 shutout innings after relieving J.C. Cosme, who tossed 5.1 innings and surrendered just one run.
Bowling Green (31-16, 68-48) grabbed the lead in the second frame on a Manny Sanchez sac fly. Starting pitcher Jose Mujica held Fort Wayne scoreless through seven.
Tim Ingram (L, 1-2) allowed four hits in 1.1 innings.
Following a 13-5 triumph Friday night, the TinCaps will attempt to record their third straight win and take the four-game series Sunday afternoon at Parkview Field.
