The Fort Wayne Philharmonic to Perform Third Annual Patriotic Pops at Parkview Field
(June 9, 2016) – Friends and family from across the region are invited to come and enjoy the Fort Wayne Philharmonic in celebration of the American spirit. The third annual Fort Wayne Philharmonic Patriotic Pops at Parkview Field will take place on July 3, 2016 at 8:30 P.M. with fireworks accompanying the finale. Gates open starting at 5 P.M. This is a free event to the public.
The concert will feature well-known patriotic tunes such as Yankee Doodle Dandy, American Salute, Battle Hymn of the Republic and many more. The final pieces of the concert, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, Sousa’s Washington Post March and Stars and Stripes Forever will be accompanied by fireworks.
The concert will be conducted by former Philharmonic Assistant Conductor Chia-Hsuan Lin.
“Patriotic Pops is a gift to the community, a celebration of the best in American culture and traditions, expertly performed just for you by the virtuoso musicians of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. I am delighted to return to conduct this concert,” said Chia-Hsuan Lin.
One of the most significant moments of the concert will occur when The Phil pays tribute to those who have served our country. Gardens of Stone by James Beckel from Indianapolis will make its Fort Wayne premiere with local narrator Bob Barnes. The work was commissioned by the United States Air Force Band of Flight, Lieutenant Colonel Alan Sierichs, Commander and pay tributes to the military men and women who have sacrificed their lives for our country. It includes words from President Reagan, General Eisenhower, and President Lincoln. Then comes Armed Forces on Parade, when our veterans will be asked to stand when their service branch theme is played.
Last year, the stadium was filled with spectators with an estimated attendance of over 8,000.
This concert will conclude The Phil’s 72nd season.
