Game recap from the TinCaps:
Cosme Leads TinCaps to Shutout Win
Fort Wayne Beats Bowling Green, 1-0
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (June 7, 2016) – The TinCaps won for the ninth time in their last 12 games with a 1-0 victory over the Bowling Green Hot Rods at Bowling Green Ballpark on Tuesday night. Fort Wayne (32-26) is now a season-best six games above .500.
Starting pitcher J.C. Cosme (W, 6-2), who was one of five TinCaps named a Midwest League Eastern Division All-Star earlier in the day, threw six scoreless, one-hit innings. The only hit the 20-year-old from Puerto Rico allowed came against the first batter he faced. After that, he retired 13 consecutive batters before issuing his only walk of the night. The six innings were a season-long for Cosme and matched a career high.
The TinCaps scored the game’s only run in the fourth inning. Hot Rods starter Roel Ramirez (L, 2-4) retired the first nine batters he faced, but Kodie Tidwell led off the top of the fourth with a double to left field, extending his on-base streak to 18 games.
Second baseman Peter Van Gansen advanced Tidwell to third base with a sacrifice bunt. That put him in scoring position to score on a sacrifice fly to right field off the bat of catcher Austin Allen.
Left-hander Nathan Foriest followed Cosme with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Righty Gerardo Reyes (S, 3) recorded the final five outs for the save.
Bowling Green (29-28) went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base, including the tying run at third in the ninth and the bases full in the eighth.
It was Fort Wayne’s fourth shutout win of the season.
