News release from the Allen County SPCA:
Allen County SPCA hosts Kitten Shower
(April 22, 2016) – This Saturday April 23, the Allen County SPCA will host its first-ever kitten shower, an event to gain support for the non-profit shelter’s efforts to save the lives of hundreds of kittens in 2016. The shower will take place at the shelter at 4914 S. Hanna Street from 3 to 5 p.m.
“It’s definitely ‘kitten season’ around here,” commented Jessica Henry, Allen County SPCA Executive Director. “Each year, we welcome dozens of pregnant cats and orphaned kittens into our program. But kittens are very fragile, and the expenses invested in each litter are significant. We are asking our community to help us celebrate the arrival of these adorable little creatures with a fun event and to support us by donating toward their care.”
The shelter provides for nursing cats and their kittens with vaccines, food (including supplemental bottle feedings when necessary), all medications and sterilization surgeries once the kittens have weaned. The entire process can take 10-12 weeks and care is provided in the shelter or in the homes of dedicated volunteers. In 2015, the shelter tended to 642 felines under 5 months of age.
The community is asked to bring items from the Kitten Shower “registry” or wish list. Those items include: canned kitten food, non-clumping cat litter, cat toys, baby blankets, turkey or chicken baby food in jars, kitten feeding bottles, and kitten milk replacer – known as KMR and available at pet stores. Cash donations are also appreciated.
Attendees can expect an event every bit as fun as a traditional baby shower, including games and prizes and cake and punch. This is a family-friendly event, complete with shelter tours, and kittens will be available to visit with or to adopt. For more information call (260)744-0454 or visit www.acspca.org.
