Game recap from the TinCaps:

TinCaps 6, Lansing Lugnuts 1

LANSING, Michigan (April 20, 2016) – The TinCaps beat the Lansing Lugnuts, 6-1, on Wednesday night in the rubber match of a three-game series at Cooley Law School Stadium.

Fort Wayne (9-5) first baseman Brad Zunica broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the sixth inning with a two-run opposite-field home run to left field against Lansing reliever Conor Fisk (L, 1-1). For the 20-year-old Zunica, it was his team-leading third homer this season.

The TinCaps added three insurance runs in the top of the ninth, as Kodie Tidwell (double), Peter Van Gansen (single), and Michael Gettys (double) each drove in a run.

Lansing (6-5) managed just an unearned run in the bottom of the second. Jacob Nix started for Fort Wayne and went the first three innings before giving way to left-hander Logan Allen (W, 2-0), who went the next four. Another lefty, Will Headean (S, 2), spun the final two frames. The trio held the Lugnuts to six hits while striking out eight and walking a mere three batters.

The TinCaps have yielded only five earned runs over the past five games. The team’s ERA is a Midwest League-low 2.47.

Van Gansen led the game off with a double — the first of 10 Fort Wayne hits — and scored before an out was recorded. Gettys moved him to third base on a bunt single and a passed ball brought him in.
At 9-5, the TinCaps are off to their best start since 2009, when they opened the year 11-3.
