Game recap from the TinCaps:
TinCaps 4, Great Lakes 2
MIDLAND, Mich. (April 11, 2016) – The TinCaps won their third game in a row on Monday night, topping the Great Lakes Loons, 4-2, at Dow Diamond.
Fort Wayne (3-2) rallied after falling behind 2-0 with two-run home runs from designated hitter River Stevens and right fielder Luis Tejada.
Stevens pulled his homer over the right-field fence to plate Tejada and tie the game in the top of the fifth inning.
“I was just trying to get Tejada across,” said Stevens, who now has two home runs in 153 career MiLB games. “When I hit it, I thought, ‘Wow, that’s going out of here.'”
Tejada tagged his off Garrett Harrison (L, 0-1) in the seventh. It traveled an estimated 404 feet to left field.
Will Headean (W, 1-0) threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win out of the bullpen. Lou Distasio (S, 1) followed with 2 scoreless frames to close it out.
Their impressive performances came on the heels of starter Enyel De Los Santos, who struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter in 3 2/3 innings. Combined, the trio struck out 12 and didn’t issue any walks.
The TinCaps entered the game leading Minor League Baseball in hits with 48 and added 10 more Monday. Three came from catcher Austin Allen, who went 3-for-4 with a walk and is now 14-for-17 to begin the season. He leads all players in both Major League and Minor League Baseball in hits.
Great Lakes (1-1) initially took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth against De Los Santos.
