GE Statement on sign removal:
At GE we take the stewardship of our properties very seriously. One of our core values is to meet our responsibilities to the local communities and environments where we have operated.
Despite our efforts to seal the site, intruders are entering GE’s Broadway campus, climbing onto the building in the East Broadway campus and vandalizing the GE sign atop the building. The lights had been shut off since last year as a result.
To avoid further deterioration, and for safety reasons, we have decided to dismantle the sign and remove its support structure. Starting today, weather-permitting, the letters and logo will be removed and stored in one of the buildings onsite. The supporting structural steel work will then be lowered from the building.
We continue to work with the City of Fort Wayne to identify actionable solutions for the property that will benefit the Fort Wayne community and meet the needs of the local market. No final decisions have been made concerning the property. We’re confident we share a desire with the City and Mayor Henry to be open to ideas and suggestions from the community and will take them into consideration as we progress.
