Critical Shooting Investigation

Details:
On Sunday, 03/27/2016, at approximately 2:14 AM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 5500 block of Glenridge Drive reference an armed subject firing gunshots in the garage of a residence. Officers arrived on scene and located a male/adult victim inside the garage. The victim was conscious and alert when officers located him. It appeared the victim was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his abdomen.
Paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital in serious condition. Upon arriving at the hospital, the victim was downgraded to critical condition by a physician.
Preliminary information indicates there was a disturbance inside the residence and the victim retrieved a handgun. It appears someone tried to intervene and encourage the victim to put the handgun away. In an attempt to disarm the subject, there was a physical struggle over the handgun. During the struggle the handgun discharged and the victim was struck in the abdomen.
Crime Scene Technicians are processing the scene and collecting evidence. Detectives are currently interviewing witnesses in an attempt to gather additional details regarding this investigation. This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
