News release from IPFW:

IPFW Sponsors Free Admission to Science Central, Brings Experts to the Community

(February 19, 2016) — Visitors to Science Central on Saturday, February 20, will find the cost of admission has been covered, courtesy of Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW). More than 20 faculty members and 30 students will also be in attendance, giving hands-on demonstrations and sharing their research with the community.

IPFW Sponsorship Day is a partnership between Science Central and IPFW’s Institute for Research, Scholarship, and Creative Endeavors (IRSC). One of the goals of the IRSC is to expand community understanding and appreciation of the work being done both by university faculty and their students. Shannon Bischoff, associate professor of linguistics and IRSC director, says that is exactly what they intend to do at Science Central.

“IPFW Science Central Sponsorship Day is a great way for the university to partner with Science Central to engage the northeast Indiana community in science-related activities, broaden the community’s understanding of science, and foster a lifetime love of curiosity-driven inquiry,” said Bischoff, “as well as a way to learn more about their local university and the world-class research being done in their own back yard by their children, friends, and neighbors.”

IPFW faculty and student research has been, and is being, funded by some of the nation’s most prestigious funding organizations: National Science Foundation, United States Department of Agriculture, The Fulbright Program, National Institutes of Health, NASA, The Mellon Foundation, and National Endowment for the Humanities, as well as other international and national organizations. The results of some of these projects will be on display at Science Central during the IPFW Sponsorship Day.
