USF hosting math competition for high school students

(February 2, 2016) – The University of Saint Francis will host the American Mathematics Competition (AMC) 10/12B for students in grades 8-12 on Wednesday, February 17 at the USF main campus, 2701 Spring Street.

Activities will begin at 6 p.m. in the Doermer Family Center for Health Science Education, rooms 156 A and B with food and refreshments, and the 75-minute test will follow. A program will be available to parents during the test, and the event will wrap up with awards.

An optional 90-minute preparatory session will be offered in the Doermer Center on Wednesday, February 10 at 6 p.m. To register for the competition, contact Carolyn Exner at cexner@sf.edu or 260-399-8067.

First administered in 1950, the AMC’s purpose is increasing interest in mathematics and developing problem-solving ability through a series of friendly mathematics competitions for junior (grades 8 and below) and senior (grades 9-12) high school students.

“We are excited to host this mathematics competition for the sixth consecutive year, and welcome this opportunity to provide an academic challenge in a university setting for young mathematicians,” said Dr. Victor Kutsenok of the USF Department of Mathematics.
