CLHS students to lead ‘March’ in Washington

(January 7, 2016) — A group of 70 Concordia Lutheran High School students will lead the “March for Life” in Washington, D.C., later this month in support of pro-life.

The 42nd annual March for Life is in response to the 1973 Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion through the ninth month of a pregnancy.

CLHS students were selected to hold the banner that will lead the parade by the March for Life Education and Defense Fund after being recommended for the position.

“To hold the banner is a great honor,” said junior Jack Wert, who will be attending the March. “I get to be the face, one of the leaders of the charge to support our cause. I wouldn’t be surprised if, when our cause is successful, a picture of that banner with us behind it will appear in history books for our children to see.”

“Leading the March is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I am excited to have the chance to show our country’s leaders that we are there to end abortion,” added junior Kirsten Olson.

The students, along with 17 chaperones, will leave on Jan. 20 and return on Jan. 23. The March will take place on the National Mall on Jan. 22. Senior Nathan Grime was also selected to speak at the pre-March rally.

“Concordia is honored to lead this year’s national March, and while this will be our largest group to date, our cause remains the same: Taking a peaceful stand for unborn children and their families,” said Mark Dolde, CLHS teacher and March for Life trip adviser.
