Barricaded Subject, 6700 block of Redbud Drive

Subject: Male, age 17
Details:
On Tuesday November 24, 2015 at approximately 1:32 pm, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a residence located in the 6700 block of Redbud Drive in reference to a disturbance involving an individual armed with a knife.
Officers arrived on the scene and observed a male inside the residence very agitated while armed with a knife. The individual went into a bedroom and barricaded himself inside the bedroom while still armed with the knife.
Officers attempted to communicate with the subject through the door asking him to put the knife down and come out of the bedroom and speak with officers. The subject refused to put the knife down and come out of the bedroom.
At that time, members with the Fort Wayne Police Departments Emergency Services Team and Crisis Response Teams were dispatched to the scene. Members with the Crisis Response Team made communication with the subject by telephone asking him once again to put the knife down and come out of the bedroom and speak with officers.
After several attempts to have the subject surrender were unsuccessful, officers deployed tear gas into the bedroom. The subject immediately came out of the bedroom unarmed and was taken into custody. The subject was transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.
This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutors Office.
