(November 19, 2015) – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne is organizing again this year their traditional Thanksgiving dinner for families of two of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne located in high need areas of the city.
The meals will be made available to families residing in Brookmill Courts, a Fort Wayne Housing Authority community, as well as families and students of the Timothy L. Johnson Academy, where the newest Boys & Girls Club of Fort Wayne is located.
The Thanksgiving dinners are scheduled as follows:
- Monday November 23th, 2015 from 5-6 p.m. at the Timothy L. Johnson Academy (4615 Werling Drive)
- Tuesday November 24th, 2015 from 5-6 p.m. at the Brookmill Court Clubhouse (Millbrook Drive)
The dinner is made possible by donations received by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne, board members who will volunteer their time to serve the dinners and strong community partners. The Fort Wayne Housing Authority and Timothy L. Johnson Academy are promoting the initiative to the families they serve. Both organizations provide much-appreciated space and infrastructure for the Clubs that meet on their premises.
“Our residents look forward to this event every year and are thankful for the opportunity to come together as a community to enjoy the holiday together,” stated George Guy, Executive Director of the Fort Wayne Housing Authority, “We appreciate our partnership with the Boys and Girls Club and the programming they provide the young people in our communities.”
Also involved in the initiative are the Community Harvest Food Bank, who will provide the food, and Ceruti’s, who will prepare the dinners and deliver them to the two sites. These partners are offering food and preparation services at a low price.
Any leftovers from the dinners will be given to the Rescue Mission, whose mission includes providing food for the hungry, a home for the homeless and hope for their future.
“We are excited to partner with so many strong community organizations, all working together for this significant and enjoyable holiday moment”, said Joe Jordan, President & CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne, “It is amazing that the spirit of collaboration among these community organizations can have such impact on families and children in our community.”
