USF welcoming visitors to Christmas in the Castle
(November 12, 2015) — The University of Saint Francis will once more open the doors of historic Brookside, the former Bass family mansion, for Christmas in the Castle, Dec. 4-9 on the USF campus, 2701 Spring Street.
Tours are available as follows:
- Friday, Dec. 4 – 4-6 p.m.
- Saturday, Dec. 5 – Noon-5 p.m.
- Sunday, Dec. 6 – Noon-5 p.m.
- Monday, Dec. 7 – 4-6 p.m.
Wednesday, Dec. 9 is Senior Day from noon to 5 p.m., offering senior citizens the opportunity to tour Brookside at a discounted price.
Brookside, built as a summer home by Fort Wayne industrialist John Bass, lies at the center of the USF campus. Every year, local florists and decorators enhance the beauty of the authentically restored and award-winning 1902 mansion by decorating it for Christmas. Twenty professionally ornamented Christmas trees will be placed throughout Brookside this year and 15 decorators, including three that are new to Christmas in the Castle, will be displaying their talents, making this the largest display in the event’s history.
Visitors can tour every room on all three floors of the limestone home that features a winding staircase made by the Packard Piano Company, and more than a dozen marble fireplaces from all corners of the world. Free parking is available, and the building is fully accessible for people with disabilities.
Tickets must be purchased in the North Campus lobby, 2702 Spring Street, on the day of the tours, with transportation available to Brookside. Admission is $6 per person, with a family charge of $25 for up to six family members. The senior citizen rate (available December 9 only) is $4.
