News release from the Volunteer Center:
COATS for KIDS – 2015
Mayor Tom Henry led the kick-off event for the 2015 COATS for KIDS Campaign with a distribution of warm winter coats to children at MLK Montessori School. This program annually distributes 3,000+ coats to local underserved children. This is the 16th year of the program that has delivered more than 49,000 winter coats through schools and social service agencies over the years.
“We are fortunate to be part of a caring and giving community,” said Mayor Henry. “It’s important for us to come together to assist children in need of winter coats. I encourage everyone to take this opportunity to make a positive difference.”
Beginning Saturday, November 14th individuals are asked to donate gently used or new coats that are being collected at all Peerless Cleaner locations, Kroger stores, Penn Station, Jefferson Pointe and Adams Radio, 2000 Lower Huntington Road. Collections will continue through Sunday, December 6th.
Cash donations are also welcome. $25 will put a new coat, hat, scarf and mittens on a child. Secure online donations are accepted at www.volunteerfortwayne.org.
Coats will be delivered to schools and social service agencies by Fort Wayne Firefighters prior to the Holiday break during the week of December 14th.
Program partners with the Volunteer Center are Peerless Cleaners, Kroger, Adams Radio Group, Fort Wayne Firefighters, St. Vincent DePaul Society, Berne Apparel and Penn Station.
