Lutheran hosting conference on how to talk with families of dying loved ones
(September 21, 2015) – On Wednesday, Oct. 14, Lutheran Health Network is offering its annual “Caring with Compassion” training session designed for healthcare providers who care for dying patients and their families. Taking place at Lutheran Hospital’s Kachmann Auditorium, Medical Office Building Two, registration begins at 7 a.m., and the program will run from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Presenters will discuss the role of healthcare providers to the family during the dying process as well as how to provide support for the family. Specific explanations will be given about what to say or what to avoid, in addition to ways to assist children when their loved one is dying.
The speakers include Victor Kolch, D.Min., division director of pastoral care, Lutheran Hospital; Cindy Maldonado-Schaefer, MSHRM, child grief specialist and director of operations, Erin’s House for Grieving Children; and Marlene C. Bultemeyer, MD, Fort Wayne Neurological Center.
Continuing education hours for nursing professionals are available for this training.
