TinCaps unable to complete three-game sweep at South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (August 23, 2015) – The TinCaps were unable to complete a three-game sweep of the South Bend Cubs on Sunday afternoon, dropping the series finale, 7-4, at Four Winds Field. Even with the loss, Fort Wayne has won 20 of its last 24 games.

Fort Wayne (36-19, 68-55) still leads West Michigan by three games for first place in the Eastern Division second half race, as the Whitecaps lost at Lake County on Sunday. With 15 games remaining in the regular season, the TinCaps are eight games in front of South Bend and Lake County who are tied for third. The top two teams make the Midwest League Playoffs.

South Bend (28-27, 57-65) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning against Pete Kelich (L, 2-1).
The TinCaps made it a two-run game with a run in the third and another in the fourth. However, the Cubs answered back with two more in the fourth to make it 6-2. Fort Wayne put up a pair in the fifth only to see South Bend score once again as well.

Shortstop Ruddy Giron highlighted the offense for the TinCaps with two of the team’s nine hits, including an RBI double in the third. Catcher Michael Miller also contributed an RBI double in the fifth.

Ryan McNeil (W, 3-3) pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings out of South Bend’s bullpen. Corbin Hoffner (S, 9) followed with two scoreless.

The TinCaps are back at Parkview Field on Monday night to host the Lansing Lugnuts at 7:05. The game can be seen on Comcast Network 81, and heard on ESPN Radio 1380, Box Score, and the TuneIn Radio app.
