Game recap from the TinCaps:
TinCaps extend winning streak to seven
BURLINGTON, Iowa (August 4, 2015) – The TinCaps extended their longest winning streak of the season to seven games on Tuesday night with a 4-0 victory over the Burlington Bees. Chris Huffman, T.J. Weir, and Colby Blueberg authored the team’s sixth shutout win this year.
Fort Wayne’s current winning streak is its longest since June 2013 when the club won nine in a row.
First baseman Trae Santos tripled with two outs in the top of the fifth inning against Keynan Middleton (L, 5-8) and scored on a passed ball to give the TinCaps a 1-0 lead that proved to be enough.
Huffman (W, 6-6) blanked Burlington for five innings with two strikeouts. Weir worked the sixth and seventh, while Blueberg spun the final two frames.
Fort Wayne (23-15, 55-51) scored again with two outs in the sixth thanks to the team’s 18-year-old middle infielders. Second baseman Luis Urias doubled to left-center field on what would’ve been just a single for most players, but turned into an extra-base hit because of his hustle. He then improbably scored from second when shortstop Ruddy Giron hit a single up the middle that was cut off by Bees second baseman Tim Arakawa, who threw to first.
Catcher Jose Ruiz added a two-out RBI single in the seventh and right fielder Franmil Reyes provided a run-scoring double in the eighth.
Burlington (14-24, 49-58) went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven on base. The TinCaps were 3-for-5 in those situations and stranded four.
The middle game of this interdivision series is set for Wednesday at 7:30 EST. Fort Wayne is scheduled to start left-hander Travis Radke (1-0, 1.50) against righty Justin Anderson (6-8, 3.64). The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380, Box Score, and the TuneIn Radio app.
