United Way Kicks Off 23rd Annual Day of Caring with more than 1,250 volunteers
Fort Wayne, Indiana (July 29, 2015) – More than 1,250 volunteers will participate in the 23rd annual United Way Day of Caring on Thursday, July 30. Nearly 80 community service projects in the Fort Wayne area, 10 of which are homes provided through NeighborLink, are to be completed by nearly 75 volunteer teams.
The day starts with a breakfast by Orchid Events and Catering, at Headwaters Park West at 7:30 a.m. More than 700 of the volunteers are also expected to attend the kickoff breakfast where they will learn about Day of Caring and be thanked for their service to the community.
“Day of Caring shows what we can accomplish when we all work together,” said David Nicole, president and CEO of United Way of Allen County. “On one day, an estimated quarter of a million dollars are saved by Allen County nonprofits, schools and neighbors because of the time, talent and materials that these devoted volunteers contribute.”
Day of Caring focuses on the meaning of LIVE UNITED. United Way works together with agencies and volunteers, to meet the needs of our community, making Allen County a better place to live and work. Projects submitted for Day of Caring are completed in one day and generally consist of cleaning, landscaping, painting and other general maintenance. Projects take place at non-profit agencies, schools or private residences coordinated by NeighborLink.
“Day of Caring cannot be accomplished by one single company, organization or individual,” said United Way Board Chair, Dent Johnson. “Imagine our community if we all worked together like this every day.”
