Developed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the American Water Works Association (AWWA), the 15-Year Directors Award recognizes treatment plant operations and performance, and action plans to achieve quality optimization.

The recognition puts our plant into elite status and spotlights the successful completion of high standards for 15-years in a row at our Water Filtration Plant. Less than 1 percent of the 11,500 surface water treatment plants in our nation, eligible for the award, have received the recognition. In the history of the award, only 77 plants have obtained the honor.

“We are honored to receive this award and I am incredibly proud of our highly committed staff. Our team of dedicated and talented professionals has nearly 700 of years of experience in treating and delivering the best tasting water in the state. Our utility’s goal is to continually improve the quality of water we deliver to our customers in a safe, cost effective and efficient manner,” said Kumar Menon, Director of Fort Wayne City Utilities

The award selection committee noted Fort Wayne’s sustained commitment to process and testing along with high standards for water quality as some of the items that stand out at our Three Rivers Water Filtration Plant.

“Achievement of the 15-Year Directors Award demonstrates our ongoing commitment to protecting public health, keeping our community an affordable place to live and do business and investing wisely in our infrastructure. We share this honor with our customers who trust us to provide high quality water at affordable rates,” added Menon.

The Filtration Plant distributes drinking water to more than 300,000 people in Fort Wayne and surrounding areas.

Fort Wayne received the honor at AWWA’s annual conference of the American Water Works Association.
