Game recap from the TinCaps:
Federowicz homers, TinCaps shut down Lake County Captains
(July 15, 2015) – Fort Wayne won its second straight on Wednesday night, defeating the Lake County Captains, 4-1. The TinCaps have now won 17 of their last 24 games and remain in first place in the Eastern Division.
Padres catcher Tim Federowicz blasted a two-run home run to start things off in the bottom of the first. He finished with two hits and hammered the baseball hard in all four at bats in his third rehab start in the Summit City.
The home team stretched its lead to 3-0 later in the inning when Luis Tejada drilled a base knock to right-center field that plated Franmil Reyes.
That was all the run support Thomas Dorminy (W, 7-6) needed. The lefty blanked the Captains over six innings and struck out three. He outlasted Lake County (6-13, 42-45) starter Justus Sheffield (L, 7-3), who allowed nine hits over his four innings of work.
Bobby Ison drove in the first Captains run in the top of the seventh, but Fort Wayne (13-7, 45-43) answered in the bottom of the frame. Reyes tripled — his team-leading fifth of the season — and came home on a wild pitch that whizzed past catcher Francisco Mejia.
Colby Blueberg then shut down the visitors in the ninth to notch his 13th save of the season, third best in the Midwest League. Fort Wayne pitchers have allowed one run over the last 18 innings.
Every TinCap starter recorded a hit on Wednesday, and in addition to Federowicz, Luis Urias, Jose Ruiz and Reyes all tallied multi-hit games.
Fort Wayne continues its series with Lake County on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Manager Francisco Morales calls on Dinelson Lamet (3-4, 3.77) to face Captains scheduled starter Anderson Polanco (4-6, 4.39) at Parkview Field.
