TinCaps fall in walk-off fashion

DAYTON, Ohio (May 6, 2015) – With two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning, second baseman Ty Washington hit a walk-off single into left field to score Jonathan Reynoso and lift the Dragons to a 6-5 win over Fort Wayne on Wednesday night.

The loss stings for the TinCaps, who led 5-4 going into the bottom of the ninth. Third baseman Duanel Jones gave Fort Wayne the lead with a three-run home run in the top of the eighth. The 21-year-old from the Dominican Republic now has a team-leading three homers and 19 RBIs — third most in the Midwest League.

Jones’ home run came in response to a two-run blast in the seventh by Narciso Crook that put Dayton ahead, 4-2. The Dragons had initially tied the game, 2-2, in the sixth.

The TinCaps scored first on Wednesday when left fielder Edwin Moreno lined an opposite-field single to left in the top of the fourth inning. Fort Wayne (8-16) pushed its lead to 2-0 in the sixth on an RBI-groundout by designated hitter Nick Torres.

Shortstop Franchy Cordero went 4-for-5 with three runs scored in the loss. Meanwhile, first baseman Trae Santos hit a pair of doubles.

Brian Hunter (W, 3-1) picked up the win after pitching a scoreless 10th and 11th. Aaron Cressley (L, 0-1) had a tough-luck decision, allowing an unearned run. Fort Wayne starter Ernesto Montas went 5 2/3 frames, lowering his season ERA to 3.24.

The TinCaps are back at Parkview Field on Thursday to host the Lansing Lugnuts at 7:05 p.m. Fort Wayne is set to start left-hander Taylor Cox (0-2, 5.12) against lefty Shane Dawson (2-2, 1.57). The game can be seen on Comcast Network 81 and heard on ESPN Radio 1380, Box Score, and the TuneIn Radio app.
