News release from the Fort Wayne Fire Department:
House Fire, 849 Columbia Avenue
(April 27, 2015) – At 10:01 PM, the FWFD began receiving many calls reporting a house fire near 849 Columbia Avenue and Loree Street. Initial callers reported that the rear of the house was on fire and the top of the house was already collapsing. On arrival 1 min later, FWFD crews knocked down the fire on the rear of the house and then moved in to extinguish fire on the second floor and in the attic. The fire was declared under control in less than an hour but crews spent about two more hours on overhauling the fire.
Two adults were home when the fire started but they escaped on their own. One cat perished in the fire.
The Fort Wayne Fire Department was assisted by AEP, NIPSCO, Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control, TRAA, and the FWPD.
