News release from Hear Care Connection:
Local Audiology Clinic Supplying the “Gift of Hearing” in Haiti
HearCare Connection, Inc. to embark on a Hearing Mission Trip to Leveque, Haiti.
(February 26, 2015) – HearCare Connection will be embarking on a very special trip to bring the Gift of Hearing to the largest deaf and hard of hearing population in Haiti. In a joint effort with HearCare Audiology, A&E Audiology, and Hear the World U.S.; HearCare Connection will provide audiology care, general training and maintenance as part of a fourteen person team travelling February 28, 2015-March 7, 2015 to Leveque, Haiti.
“I’m excited to be able to take the skills that I have learned here over to Haiti where I will be able to serve those who may not otherwise be able to receive the gift of hearing. There’s nothing better than seeing a child smile when they notice sounds around them for the first time.” – Dr. Tina Sheehan, AuD., HearCare Connection.
The Hearing the Call Haiti trip brings audiology care to some of the least reached places in the world. According to the World Health Organization, there are over 360 million people living with a disabling hearing loss. The majority of these cases can be treated through early diagnosis and proven intervention.
“The goal of these trips is to serve individuals with little or no access to care with hearing tests and hearing aid fittings. It also allows us to raise awareness for the deep need for hearing health care to uninsured and underinsured men, women and children in our own communities right here in the U.S.” – Anna Bogdon, Executive Director for HearCare Connection
A portion of the work for this trip will take place in the Haiti Deaf Children’s Home. This 52 bed facility was built in 2013 in response to the overwhelming need to house deaf and hard of hearing students as they came to Leveque to seek an education. Highlights of the trip will be posted on the HearCare Connection Facebook page and website.
