Significant water quality issues to be addressed at the 2015 Tri-State Conservation Farming Expo

Angola, Ind., (February 26, 2015) – The St. Joseph River Watershed Initiative, its partner agencies and organizations are proud to announce the 2015 Tri-State Conservation Farming Expo to be held on March 24, 2015 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Now in its 14th year, the Tri-State Conservation Farming Expo continues to bring over 200 farmers the latest conservation farming information from universities, the agriculture industry, and conservation experts.

This year, the Tri-State Conservation Farming Expo will be held at the beautiful Potawatomi Inn Resort and Conference Center, located at 6 Lane 100A Lake James in Angola, Indiana (located within Pokagon State Park).

The theme this year is “Cultivating Conservation: Bringing Economics and Conservation Together”. Topics to be covered include: the market outlook; the economics of conservation; proper manure and pesticide management; and upcoming state and federal programs. Twenty presenters are slated for this year’s event, promising to make it worth attending!

“Freshwater has come to the forefront of everyone’s mind in last several months,” said Lauren Lindemann of The Nature Conservancy. “It is important for us to have clean, drinkable water while keeping our land productive. We are proud to bring experts together at the Tri-State Conservation Farming Expo to discuss the latest efforts to increase practical and effective freshwater conservation.”

Tickets for admission to event, including a light breakfast and buffet lunch, can be purchased for $20 in advance (or $25 at the door) by contacting the St. Joseph River Watershed Initiative at (260) 484-5848 x 3.

Continuing Education Credits (IN, OH, & MI) for private and commercial applicators will be available. There will be an additional $10 fee for continuing education credits for the Private Applicators Recertification Program (PARP).

The St. Joseph River Watershed Initiative (SJRWI) serves an eight-county area across three states. This Initiative is seeking partnerships that promote economical and environmentally compatible land uses that improve water quality in the 694,400 acre watershed.
