The Fort Wayne Police and Fire Departments will be holding promotion ceremonies today at Citizens Square. The Police ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. and the Fire ceremony begins at 11 a.m.

(January 12, 2015) – The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) will hold a promotional ceremony for three of its members on Monday, January 12, 2015. The swearing-in ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. at Citizens Square room 35.

Captain Brett Brown will be sworn in as District Chief of Health and Safety. Brown is a 16-year veteran of the FWFD. In his new position Brown will supervise and coordinate all activities relating to the field of health and safety for the department including ensuring compliance, proper testing, inspection and recording of apparatus and equipment, personal safety equipment and fire department facilities as well as overseeing the Department’s Fitness and Wellness program.

Brown is a Captain and is on the assessed list for the rank of Battalion Chief. Brett has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Indiana University, and will complete a Master of Science degree in Public Administration in the spring of 2015 through Indiana State University. He has also completed three years in the four-year Executive Fire Officer program at the National Fire Academy. Brett recently retired from the Army Reserve at the rank of Major after 20 years of service and three deployments.

Captain Jay Gorndt will be promoted to District Chief of Logistics. Gorndt is a 16-year veteran of the FWFD. In his new position, Gorndt will assist with specifications and purchase of new fire apparatus and firefighting equipment, maintain an inventory and service history on all FWFD equipment and assist with the development of a long term plan for equipment/apparatus replacement.

Prior to this appointment Gorndt has served the department as a firefighter, a Lieutenant, and most recently a Captain of Training. Gorndt also works as a Planning Section Chief for District 3 All Hazards Incident Management Team, as Chair of the Training Committee for the District Planning Council and is an instructor of Indiana Firefighter State Certification classes.

Private Mitch Maisonneuve will be sworn in as Captain/Inspector in the Fire Prevention Division. Mitch, one of seven Inspectors will assist with occupancy inspections in accordance with the Indiana Fire Code and local ordinances. Maisonneuve’ s additional responsibilities include plan reviews of new construction and remodeling; conducts fire drills, fire safety programs and extinguisher training; and assists in developing and implementing Code Enforcement programs.

Maisonneuve, a 15 year veteran of the department, has served as a member of FWFD’s Water Rescue Team. Since 1996 Mitch has also served the community working as a Paramedic and currently works at PRMC Emergency Department. Maisonneuve was Parkview’s 2014 Martha Goodrich award winner, an honor bestowed to an employee for diligent and faithful service to Parkview Hospital and the broader community.
