News release from the Allen County SPCA:
Allen County SPCA celebrates 2,000 adoptions
Participates in PetSmart Charities National Adoption Weekend, November 15-16
(November 13, 2014) – The Allen County SPCA facilitated its 2,000th adoption just before closing time on Wednesday evening, setting another record for the 60 year-old nonprofit animal shelter. “We are so proud of this community for recognizing the importance of animal adoption. We really are saving lives like never before,” said Jessica Henry, shelter director. In all of 2013, the shelter saw 1,274 total adoptions. Henry credits an increased awareness of animal adoption, a streamlined adoption process and a great working relationship with other shelters such as Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control. To keep the trend going, The ACSPCA will be participating in a national adoption event this weekend at the Apple Glen PetSmart.
The PetSmart Charities National Adoption Weekend is scheduled for November 15-16, at more than 1,210 PetSmart stores, including the Apple Glen location at 1760 Apple Glen Blvd. in Fort Wayne. Save a pet’s life and enrich your own with the pure joy that only a tail wag can bring.
As always the Allen County SPCA will be offering same-day adoptions for pre-approved applications. “Many adopters have pre-approved applications on file with us already. We encourage them to come out to PetSmart this weekend, meet with the dogs and cats, and take their animal home the same day,” said shelter director, Jessica Henry. Adopters not currently pre-approved can still meet with the available animals, and through a streamlined process, when approved, may be able to take the animal home that day as well. All animals will be adopted on a first come basis. “We are grateful to PetSmart Charities for their commitment to pet adoption. They have been a wonderful partner for our shelter, and we appreciate the opportunity to participate in this big, national effort.”
Hours are: 10 am to 3 pm both days.
Pet adoptions will benefit the Allen County SPCA; which will receive $35 in adoption-reward grants from PetSmart Charities for every pet they adopt in-store during this event.
