YLNI supports single county executive referendum
November 4 vote could change Allen County’s government
(September 10, 2014) – Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana (YLNI) is throwing its support behind the voter referendum calling for a single county executive.
If the referendum passes on November 4, the current three-member County Commission would be replaced with a single elected official, who would have executive authority. The County Council would increase from seven members to nine and have legislative authority.
Supporters of the referendum believe county government with a single elected official would be more efficient, more effective, more accountable, and would provide greater representation for Allen County’s communities and neighborhoods.
“YLNI members have taken the time to educate themselves about this referendum, and we firmly believe it would lead to streamlined decision-making and allow for more representation for individual citizens,” said YLNI President Sam Graves.
“More than 400 other communities around the United States have a single elected official model of government,” said Graves. “It has been endorsed by current County Commissioner Nelson Peters, 3rd District County Councilman Darren Vogt and many others. We need to reject the status quo and make this necessary, long overdue change.”
