United Way of Allen County Announces New CEO
(September 15, 2014) – United Way of Allen County’s Board of Directors has appointed David Nicole to be the agency’s new President and CEO. The full board voted on Nicole’s hiring at its meeting Thursday, September 11, 2014. Nicole will begin work at the agency in November.

United Way Board Chair Steve Smith said, “The board and staff of United Way is most pleased to welcome David Nicole, his wife Bethany and their children back to Fort Wayne. The arrival of a new CEO for any organization brings a robust opportunity for creative new beginnings.”
Mr. Nicole, 38, is currently the Vice President of Resource Development at Trident United Way in Charleston, South Carolina. He began his career at Trident as a Loaned Executive in 2001. He became a campaign manager within the organization, was promoted to Vice President of Campaign and then Vice President of Resource Development three years ago. Mr. Nicole currently serves on two Boards, The United Way Association of South Carolina and the MWV Corporation Leadership Board.
He is a Fort Wayne native and attended St. Charles Borromeo School. He attended high school in the Cleveland, OH area and graduated from the University of Akron, with a degree in Economics. Nicole also holds an MBA from the University of South Carolina – Darla Moore School of Business.
Mr. Nicole and his wife Bethany have two children, Jake and Keeley. His grandparents live in Fort Wayne and informed him of the open position at United Way.
“United Way’s unique strength is our ability to bring the right people around the right table at the right time and have those tough conversations that drive community impact,” said Mr. Nicole.
“The board anxiously anticipates working with David as he rolls out programs and processes that have been proven effective at Trident United Way,” said Smith. “Clearly now is the time when United Way and the Live United approach to funding social service needs and agencies in Allen County is more relevant and necessary than ever. David’s experience in achieving tangible results and meaningful outcomes will aid in moving us in the right direction over the near and long-term future.”
