Matt Wisler Bobblehead Night presented by Source One Solutions
TinCaps to Honor Bryan, Ohio, Native at Wednesday’s Game
(August 23, 2014) – The first 1,000 fans who arrive to Parkview Field for the TinCaps’ 7:05 p.m. game on Wednesday, August 27 will receive a free Matt Wisler bobblehead presented by Source One Solutions.
Wisler, a native of Bryan, Ohio, was Fort Wayne’s ace in 2012. Now with Triple-A El Paso, the 21-year-old right-hander is considered the top pitching prospect in the San Diego Padres’ farm system. MLB.com ranks Wisler as the 64th-best prospect in all of baseball.
“We’re excited to be recognizing one of the best young pitchers who’s come through Parkview Field to date,” TinCaps President Mike Nutter said. “But it’s even more special to be honoring a guy who’s from our own neck of the woods.”
After passing on a scholarship to pitch at Ohio State, Wisler spent his first full Minor League season with the TinCaps. His 2.53 ERA was the third lowest in the Midwest League in 2012. Opponents hit only .229 against him — the fourth lowest batting average in the league. Meanwhile, Wisler struck out 8.84 batters per nine innings pitched, which was the third highest ratio among pitchers in the 16-team circuit.
Wisler pitched for Advanced-A Lake Elsinore and Double-A San Antonio in 2013. He began this season in Double-A before earning a promotion to El Paso in early May. In his most recent start on Wednesday, Wisler allowed only one run over seven innings and struck out seven. It was his eighth win of the season in Triple-A.
“Young men in Northeast Indiana and Northwest Ohio should look to Matt as a role model,” Nutter said. “For as good of a pitcher as he is, he’s an even better person, and that’s a testament to the job his family and Bryan, Ohio, did in raising him.”
