TinCaps Go Cold on Cool August Night
LANSING, Mich. (August 14, 2014) – In the finale of a three-game series, the TinCaps lost to the Lansing Lugnuts, 6-1, on Thursday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.
Fort Wayne (23-29, 53-68) scored in the top of the first inning, but then went cold on a night in which the temperature dropped into the 50s by the final out. Ryan Miller hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to score Dustin Peterson for the visitor’s only run.
Lansing (23-29, 55-66) tied the game in the bottom of the second inning. Derrick Loveless gave the Lugnuts the lead with a two-run double in the fifth and they never looked back. The home team tacked on two more runs in the sixth and another in the eighth.
The TinCaps managed only two hits and struck out 14 times. Brad Allen (4-5) fanned a season-high nine batters in five innings for the win.
Cody Hebner (1-3) also had a season best for strikeouts with seven, but received the loss after allowing three runs in five frames.
Fort Wayne returns to Parkview Field Friday night to begin a six-game homestand at 7:05 p.m. against the Lake County Captains. Kyle Lloyd is set to start for the TinCaps against Dace Kime.
