August Miami Indian Heritage Days focuses on Native American Beadwork
(July 28, 2014) – Miami Indian Heritage Days on Saturday, August 2, at the Chief Richardville House, 5705 Bluffton Road, features Katrina Mitten showcasing Native American Bead Work.
Sponsored by the History Center, Miami Indian Heritage Days programs are held from 1-4 pm on the first Saturday of the month May through November.
Mitten is a member of the Miami tribe of Oklahoma but was born and raised in Indiana, her tribal homelands. In her early teens she began learning the art of embroidery style beadwork of the Great Lakes Native Americans by studying family heirlooms and museum collections as she practiced the craft.

Admission for each Saturday event is $7 adults and $5 students and seniors ages 59+. History Center members and children ages 2 and under are free. Admission also includes the opportunity to visit the Chief Richardville House, designated a National Historic Landmark in 2012.
