In loss, TinCaps set new franchise mark

Midland, MI (July 9, 2014) – A 3-0 defeat Wednesday night at the hands of the Great Lakes Loons sent the Fort Wayne TinCaps to their 11th straight loss, setting a new franchise record for consecutive defeats.

Fort Wayne (5-14, 35-53) had only one runner reach third base on a comfortably warm night at Dow Diamond. Starter Jeffery Enloe (0-3), making his second start in a TinCaps uniform, allowed three runs—two earned—in five innings, while striking out four.

Great Lakes (9-9, 44-45) scored a single run in the second on a two-out bloop single off the bat of catcher Spencer Navin. In the fourth the Loons added two more, as the inning began with back-to-back singles by Joey Curletta and Webster Rivas. On Rivas’ hit, though, right fielder Franmil Reyes committed his 10th error of the season by overthrowing the cut-off man, which allowed Curletta to take third and Rivas second. Curletta scored on a sacrifice fly by Paul Hoenecke, and Josmar Cordero doubled home Rivas.

The TinCaps scattered four hits against Scott Barlow (3-3) in his five innings. The righthander walked one and struck out six. Fort Wayne went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position, and are now hitting .188 (19-for-101) in their last 11 games in such situations. A trio of Michael Johnson, Jordan Hershiser, and Matt Campbell limited the TinCaps to three hits over the final four innings, and Campbell earned his second save.

The previous franchise mark for consecutive losses was 10, set by the 1995 Fort Wayne Wizards. That team lost each game it played from May 13-23 of that season. Fort Wayne will try and snap its skid in the finale of the three-game series, scheduled for Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. The TinCaps are set to send Yimmi Brasoban to the hill against Loons righthander Victor Arano. The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380 and TinCaps.com.
