Summer events at the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo

June 7-Aug 3 – Creature Features
Meet your favorite animals and the people who care for them at Keeper Chats and Feeding Demonstrations all summer. Get a schedule at the gate when you enter. Free with zoo admission.

 

June 9 – Military Appreciation Day
To honor those who serve our country, active duty military, retired military, National Guard members, Reservists and their immediate families receive free zoo admission on June 9 with a valid military ID. Immediate family includes spouse/partner and children age 18 and under.

 

June 12 – World Oceans Day
Even though we live in Indiana, we depend on the oceans. Learn how we are connected to the seas and discover the amazing animals that live there. Activities run from 10 AM – 3 PM and are free with zoo admission.

 

June 21 – World Giraffe Day
Meet the zoo keepers who care for our giraffes and discover how you can help endangered giraffes throughout Africa. Activities run from 11 AM – 2 PM and are free with zoo admission.

 

June 26 – Animals Got Talent
Hollywood’s got nothing on our animals – each one has special abilities that help it to survive and thrive in the wild. Activities run from 10 AM – 3 PM and are free with zoo admission.

 

July 10 – Backstage Pass
Go through the doors that say “Employees Only” to learn how the zoo operates. Tours are available from 10 AM – 3 PM and are free with zoo admission.

 

July 22 – I Wanna Be a Zoo Keeper
Kids can discover what it’s like to be a zoo keeper with special activities from 10 AM -3 PM. This event commemorates National Zoo Keeper Week and is free with zoo admission.

 

July 30 – Teacher Appreciation Night
Teachers can enjoy behind-the-scenes tours, workshops, and special activities at this free event, which includes 3 PGP points. Preregister by calling 260-427-6808.

 

August 1 – Jelani the Giraffe’s Birthday
The zoo’s tallest resident turns 16 years old this week! Help us celebrate with special activities from 10 AM – 3 PM. Activities are free with zoo admission.

About the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo
The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo is northeast Indiana’s largest tourist attraction, hosting more than 500,000 guests annually. The zoo was voted Indiana’s #1 “Gotta-Do Summer Attraction” and is consistently named one of the nation’s Top Ten Zoos for Kids by national media outlets.

The zoo is a conservation leader, contributing more than $80,000 annually to local, regional, and international efforts to protect wild animals and habitats, and participating in cooperative management programs for 15 endangered species.

As a self-supporting facility, the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo receives no tax dollars for operations. The zoo’s operations are funded entirely by earned revenue and donations.

The zoo is open 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM daily through October 12, 2014. Admission is $14.00 for adults; $10.50 for seniors age 60+; and $9.00 for children ages 2-18. Babies age 1 and under and Zoo Society Members are admitted free.
