News release from the TinCaps:
TinCaps’ Cap Garners National Recognition
Fort Wayne’s Hat Is Eighth Most Popular of 160 in Minor League Baseball
(May 23, 2014) — The people have spoken. And the TinCaps’ hat is a hit.
Two million fans voted online over the last three weeks to determine the most popular caps in Minor League Baseball. Every MiLB team was represented, and out of 160 clubs, Fort Wayne’s all-dark green, apple-logoed hat finished eighth in the “Clash of the Caps” competition — fourth among Class-A clubs.
“We’d like to thank all of our fans for their tremendous support,” TinCaps President Mike Nutter said. “Fort Wayne fans are the best in Minor League Baseball. This recognition is more evidence that the TinCaps have passionate followers not just in the Fort Wayne area, but all over the place.”
The TinCaps received 16,218 votes in total. Meanwhile, the “Clash of the Caps” winner also comes from the San Diego Padres family. That would be the first-year Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas, who won with 19,010 votes.
This honor for the TinCaps comes on the heels of finishing in Minor League Baseball’s Top 25 for Merchandise Sales for a fifth consecutive season in 2013. (MiLB does not include information on where teams finish in the top 25.)
“Nothing’s better than seeing the team win on the field,” Nutter said. “But we certainly take pride in any recognition we can bring to Fort Wayne – even if it’s competition to determine who has the best-looking hat.”
The Orchard Team Store is open at Parkview Field year-round, Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., as well as during TinCaps games.
