News release from the Allen County Board of Commissioners:

Construction of Carroll Road Bridges Completed
One-mile section of highway reopened to traffic

(May 15, 2014) — A portion of Carroll Road just east of US 33 is once again open to traffic after construction of two bridges was finished by the Allen County Highway Department late Wednesday afternoon.

Work on the bridges began in March 2013 and the one-mile section of highway had been closed to through traffic since that time.

The bridge over the Martin Johnson Drain was replaced with a new 68-foot, three-span concrete slab bridge. The bridge over the Geller Ditch was widened to 41 feet and rehabilitated with new concrete beams and deck on the existing span.

Primco, Inc. submitted low bids for both projects totaling $1.16 million. The engineers’ total estimate for the two bridge improvements was just under $1.5 million.

Seeding and landscaping work will be done with Carroll Road opened to traffic. It’s anticipated this work will be completed within the next couple of weeks, weather permitting.
