News release from the United Way of Allen County:
United Way’s Women United Present CANI with $21,000 Donation
(May 13, 2014) – United Way of Allen County’s Women United is pleased to announce a $21,000 donation to Community Action of Northeast Indiana (CANI). The donation will go towards scholarships that CANI provides for high-quality early childhood education programs.
Women United, an affinity group of United Way of Allen County, is a powerful collaboration of women committed to significantly improving the quality of life for the children in Allen County by ensuring their readiness for kindergarten.
Funds for the donation were raised through Women United’s signature event, Power of the Purse. The event garners an attendance of nearly 200 influential women in the community who support the early childhood education needs of local children. Last year, the event raised funds through a live scholarship auction and a silent auction of new or gently used celebrity or designer handbags. The next Power of the Purse event is scheduled for November 11, 2014.
“Women United is honored to be able to help support such a worthy cause”” said Women United co-chair, Irene Walters. “We believe that all Allen County children should be kindergarten ready and supporting programs at CANI and other community agencies ensure that they are.”
