Technology Fair Highlights Digital Learning
(May 8, 2014) – Fort Wayne Community Schools is sponsoring a Technology Fair from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at North Side High School, 475 E. State St.
The event is free and open to the public to see first-hand how FWCS students and teachers are using technology to improve teaching and learning at all grade levels. Attendees will be able to test out some of the technology as well as hear from students and staff about the use of technology in the classroom.
Twenty-three teacher teams from the elementary schools will share the various ways they have integrated iPads into instruction, including showing off student projects. Staff from Levan Scott Academy, which is in its second year of a one-to-one iPad project, will share how the use of iPads has changed the way teachers teach and students learn.
The Technology Fair will also highlight the FWCS middle schools, where more than 3,000 iPads are being used by students in language arts and math classes. The iPads have increased student interaction and productivity.
The FWCS high schools will share how iPads are being used to teach students the skills necessary for college and career readiness. This focus led to strategically placing iPad carts in all subject areas including special education, fine arts and related arts.“We are excited to show how we have added modern technology to the classroom to truly support student learning,” Technology Coordinator Valerie Biggs said. “We have been strategic in how we have added these tools by only placing them in classrooms where they will be used as a 21st Century learning device. Parents and the community can be confident that FWCS is focused on educating students to become productive, responsible citizens who are ready for college or careers after graduation.”
