Today’s weather story from the National Weather Service:
Accumulating snow this afternoon-tonight
(February 17, 2014) – A winter weather advisory is in effect for the entire forecast area this afternoon and tonight. The advisory is in effect from noon EST through late this evening for western areas, and from mid afternoon through late tonight for central and eastern areas. Some light snow may develop later this morning across western portions of the area, but will pick up in intensity from west to east this afternoon as a strong storm system approaches.
The heaviest snow is expected from mid afternoon through early this evening, when snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are possible. This will result in roads quickly become snow covered along with significantly reduced visibilities and hazardous travel conditions. Storm total snowfall accumulations are expected to range from 4 to 6 inches for areas north of US Route 24, to 2 to 4 inches south of US Route 24 where some sleet and freezing rain may mix in with the snow.
