Winter storm arrives
(January 5, 2014) – A major winter storm will impact the region today. Snow will continue to overspread the region this morning. The heaviest snow will fall mid to late morning through the afternoon hours Sunday with gusty winds. Snow will begin to diminish Sunday evening, outside of lake-effect areas. Near-blizzard conditions are expected Sunday night into Monday with winds 25-35 mph. A winter storm warning is in effect for the entire area with snow totals of 10 to 14 inches expected, with locally higher amounts near Lake Michigan. Amounts from 8 to 10 inches are possible along and east of a Hartford City, IN to Wauseon, OH line. Travel will be strongly discouraged today as roads may become impassable due to blowing and drifting snow. Temperatures will plummet this evening, with lows tonight from 0 degrees to -18 degrees across the area, and wind chills in the -20 to -40 degree range overnight into Monday morning.
