News release from the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir:
The Fort Wayne Children’s Choir announces staff accomplishments
(September 5, 2013) – The Fort Wayne Children’s Choir proudly announces that Steve Snyder and Kristen Snyder, both members of the Children’s Choir artistic staff, have received the prestigious Kodály Music Certification and have completed their Master’s in Music Education from Capital University, Columbus, Ohio.
The Kodály Certification is a comprehensive three year study in the practices of Zoltán Kodály, a world-renown music educator and author of one of the most well-regarded music education philosophies and methodologies. At the heart of the philosophy is the belief that music education is a core subject that is the birthright of every child. It is a complete and comprehensive approach to music education that begins in early childhood.
The Kodály Music Institute (KMI) consists of three levels of increasing musical and pedagogical complexity. Upon successful completion of three certificate levels, they have both received a nationally recognized Kodály Music Teacher’s Certificate endorsed by the Organization of American Kodály Educators (OAKE).
Mr. Snyder is the director of the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir Treble Choir, one of the organization’s eight ensembles. He is also a full-time Music Specialist for Goshen Community Schools, presently serving as Director of the Men’s Ensemble and Guitar Instructor at Goshen High School. Mrs. Snyder is the accompanist for the newly formed DeKalb Community Children’s Choir, one of the organization’s eight ensembles. She is a full-time Music Specialist for DeKalb Central School Corporation, presently serving as music specialist for Waterloo and J. R. Watson Elementary Schools.
“We are so proud of Mr. Snyder and Mrs. Snyder and their accomplishments. Their commitment to continued education is admirable”, said Denice Beights, Executive Director of the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir. Jonathan Busarow, Artistic Director of the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir added, “The Fort Wayne Children’s Choir curriculum is rooted in Kodály methodology, so to have two additional members on our staff who have these credentials and education further strengthens our program. We look forward to relying on their expertise in the field.”
