Mayor Henry leads neighborhood walk in Renaissance Pointe
(July 31, 2013) – Mayor Tom Henry and City staff tonight led a neighborhood walk in the Renaissance Pointe neighborhood in southeast Fort Wayne. The walk served as an opportunity to talk to and get feedback from citizens.
The City has made the revitalization of Renaissance Pointe a priority. Working with citizens, private developers, and the state and federal government, the City has invested several million dollars to improve infrastructure in the area. New water and sewer lines, streetlights, sidewalks, and signs have been installed, along with a trail that runs throughout the neighborhood.
In partnership with local developer Biggs TC Development, 66 lease-to-own homes were built and all of them are occupied. Additionally, more than 25 grants were awarded to current Renaissance Pointe homeowners to help them make improvements to their properties.
The City continues to welcome new opportunities for redevelopment in the neighborhood.
Throughout the summer, Mayor Henry and his staff are conducting neighborhood and business walks. A business walk was held June 6 at Jefferson Pointe, and a neighborhood walk occurred on June 27 in the Papermill Bluffs addition in north Fort Wayne. Additional walks will be held in coming weeks.
The walks are another example of Mayor Henry’s commitment to engagement, innovation, and performance. The Mayor has also sought feedback and suggestions related to City government services in various ways, including the City’s website, Mayor’s Night In events, and social media.
