Joe Dorko to leave Lutheran Health Network for new position

(June 21, 2013) – Joe Dorko, chief executive officer of Lutheran Health Network, has accepted a new role with Community Health Systems Professional Services Corporation as a special projects CEO, working on strategic and operational initiatives for affiliated hospitals. Dorko will remain with the network through mid-July.

“I have had a great experience serving as chief executive officer of Lutheran Health Network, and before that Lutheran Hospital, and I’m so proud of our many accomplishments over the past 14 years, especially those that have advanced the care provided for our patients,” said Dorko. “I will truly miss the great employees, volunteers, board members and medical staffs across the organization and I wish them all the best as they continue to move the network forward. The strong leadership in place at each hospital will support continued growth in every measure of success.”

Dorko was named CEO of Lutheran Health Network in 2010, stepping up from his role as CEO of Lutheran Hospital, a position he had held since 2007. He first joined Lutheran Hospital in 1999 as chief operating officer. During his tenure, significant investments were made to improve the network and the Lutheran Hospital campus including the construction of the Lutheran Heart Pavilion and the Lutheran Orthopedic Hospital, the expansion of the emergency department and the initial growth and development of Lutheran Children’s Hospital.

Under Dorko’s direction, LHN hospitals have received numerous certifications and verifications, including several LHN hospitals being named to the 100 Top Hospitals and US News and World Report’s Best Regional Hospitals lists. He was also instrumental in the expansion of the transplant center at Lutheran to include kidney transplantation. His leadership was crucial to the acquisitions of five physician groups and the formation of Lutheran Health Physicians.

Brian Bauer, CEO of Lutheran Hospital, will serve as the interim CEO for Lutheran Health Network during the transition while also continuing in his current role as CEO of Lutheran Hospital. He has been CEO at Lutheran Hospital since 2011.
